Here it is the 2020 Vintage Report
2020 Vintage will be remembered in Le Marche region for a mild and dry winter, followed by a bright spring with sunny days and average rainfall. Summer has been wonderful, never excessively hot, not very humid, and above all it gave us, on several occasions, refreshing rains that allowed the vine to mature in ideal climatic conditions, especially in the Apennine area where we grow Verdicchio (95%).
Drought and splendid sunny days have characterized the weather of the coast up to the entire month of September and the first part of October, influencing the productivity of the Conero area but, at the same time, allowing us to obtain an average high quality of red berry grapes thanks to an optimal phenolic maturation not always easy to reach for a rather late variety such as Montepulciano.
In nearby Abruzzo, and in particular in our estate in Roseto degli Abruzzi, season has been absolutely good, due to several rainfall (which, in particular in the spring-summer period, was absolutely adequate to meet the needs of the vine) and to amazing days of sun and light that have characterized the climate until the entire month of October without particular criticalness of the vineyard.
Harvest in Le Marche began on August 10 with Chardonnay grapes destined to our Sparkling wines, on the 24th of the same month we collected Verdicchio grapes destined for the sparkling wine base and a few days later we also started in Roseto with the Pecorino grapes. At the end of the first week of September we started the harvest of Verdicchio grapes used for Villa Bianchi and, in the following two weeks, we also completed the one for our Casal di Serra, Plenio and Vecchie Vigne.
In the first half of September we began the harvest of the red grape varieties with Merlot, Montepulciano grapes destined for Rosato and Sangiovese. Both in Le Marche and Abruzzo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Montepulciano grapes destined for our best selections have been collected between the end of September and the first part of October. Probably in mid-November we will start the first harvesting on the vineyard of our Botrytic Sauvignon.
A vintage in line with the previous 2019: rather low quantity and excellent quality level.
