Umani Ronchi is “Winery of the Year 2024”, special award by Gambero Rosso.

Umani Ronchi received the special "Winery of the Year" award during the presentation of the 2024 Guide to Italian Wines by Gambero Rosso on October 15th. Simultaneously, the Tre Bicchieri recognition went to our new wine, Historical 2018, a bright and rare Verdicchio that reveals itself after 5 years of aging: "a meticulous and fascinating masterpiece in the evolving abilities of Verdicchio."

Michele and Massimo Bernetti accepted the awards in person at the Teatro Brancaccio in Rome.

The special recognition from Gambero Rosso honours the quality excellence of our products (6 wines made it to the final tasting: Vecchie Vigne '21 and Plenio Riserva '21, Campo San Giorgio '19, Cumaro '19, Pelago '19, Maximo '21), the innovative vision, teamwork, and two highly suitable regions, Marche and Abruzzo. It doesn't stop at wine aspects alone but also reflects the overall vitality of the Umani Ronchi project, encompassing architecture, tourism and hospitality, including the Grand Hotel Palace, a Boutique & Wine Hotel in the historic centre of Ancona, and the Wine Not Bistrot.

The Umani Ronchi profile is featured in the pages of the Guide to Italian Wines 2024 and in a dedicated article in the Tre Bicchieri weekly.

"We are particularly pleased. The Winery of the Year award recognizes our journey, our history, our choices, and confirms the role of Umani Ronchi among the great brands of Italian wine. The award also comes in the year of Vecchie Vigne Historical, a wine that emerges after 5 years of aging and reflects planning, intuition, research, and a desire to express the many facets of a territory and a grape variety. All elements that tell of identity and business culture. We will continue to work in this direction, with greater awareness, drive, and the certainty of having a great family-owned company with an extraordinary human capital, without which great and ambitious goals cannot be achieved."  Michele and Massimo Bernetti

It's been a virtuous journey led by Michele Bernetti (CEO) and his father, Massimo Bernetti (Founder), confirmed by critical acclaim from both national and international wine experts since 1997 when Pelago '94 won the International Wine Challenge in London and was declared the "Best Red Wine in the World for the Year". In 2012, Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne was named the "White Wine of the Year" by Gambero Rosso. In 2020, Wine Spectator elected Umani Ronchi as one of the Best Wineries in Italy, and now with the receipt of the special award "Winery of the Year 2024" from Gambero Rosso. It's been a gradual path, always focused on the care and enhancement of the agricultural districts and the company's cultural heritage, with a particular emphasis on the well-being of people, environmental respect, and its biodiversity. In 2022, the company received the Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability Certification recognized by Equalitas.
